Dr. Hammer and Dr. Agnew, two of your race directors, perform ultra-marathon medical research. Indian River State College is their sponsoring entity. Together with biology students interested in researching the ultra-marathon runners, they perform various research projects at races such as Wild Sebastian 100, Sky Dive Ultra, Fort Clinch 100 and the Keys 100. As this race is being put on by researchers it is only fitting that we are performing medical research during the race. Participating in the research is not required but encouraged. We have collected very important pain and cardiac data over the last few years that will help medical professionals better treat and understand the functioning of the ultra-runner, in addition to helping understand other disease processes. You will also be contributing to a student's research project that is required for them to graduate. Please follow the link below and read about the current research and sign up!
Thanks,
Dr. Steven Hammer, Ph.D. Dr. James Agnew, M.D. Ph.D.
